NGC 2818 - butterfly nebulae

Rosemary Tapp

NGC 2818 is a planetary nebula located in the southern constellation Pyxis (The Compass). This spectacular nebula consists largely of glowing gases from the star's outer layers ejected during the final stages of its life when it had run out of the fuel necessary to sustain its core fusion processes. The remnants of its core will remain as a white dwarf. Huble Space Telescope photo (red: nitrogen, green: hydrogen, blue: oxygen)

NGC 2818 Universe

Planetary Nebula NGC 2818 | The Hubble Space Telescope has imaged striking details of the famed planetary nebula designated NGC 2818, which lies in the southern constellation of Pyxis (the Compass). The spectacular structure of the planetary nebula contains the outer layers of a star that were expelled into interstellar space.

Lagoon Nebula. We're made of exactly the same stuff.

Our eyes are as beautiful as the galactic nebulae. We're part of the universe as much as the universe is part of us.

The eternal mystery of the universe is its comprehensibility...the fact that it is comprehensive is a miracle....

Crimson Flares. NGC 6188 is an emission nebula about 4000 ly away in the constellation Ara. Within NGC 6188 is an open cluster of bright young stars (the Ara OB1 association) known as NGC 6193. In the bottom left hand corner is a small emission nebula NGC 6164-5. The star in the middle of the nebula is believed to have created the gas cloud and causes it to glow by virtue of the UV light it emits. That gas was likely thrown off from the star, possibly by its fast rotation.

NGC 1999. I don't care how it happens or if it's the crappiest picture ever, but I want to shoot my own space photo...

Just think... without the chaos principle, the universe would never have known the likes of this.

~~Bubble Nebula ~ NGC 7635, also called the Bubble Nebula is a nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It lies close to the direction of the open cluster Messier 52. The "bubble" is created by the stellar wind from a massive hot young central star. The nebula is near a giant molecular cloud which contains the expansion of the bubble nebula while itself being excited by the hot central star, causing it to glow | Wikipedia~~
